Decide at this point things are going to be a lot simpler if I just take the radio upstairs to where the computer is (I’m going to have to connect it to USB anyway). If you’re new to DAB digital radio you’ll love the high-detail, digital-quality sound, lots of stations (many exclusive to digital) and scrolling text displaying track titles, programme information and more.

Naturally it's only a mono design, but Pure has squeezed in both DAB and FM tuners plus a handy line input for connecting a portable, a headphone connection and a USB connection for future upgrades. Including Google map (to their credit, unlike many sites since Google helpfully broke everybody’s maps when they started charging for the Maps API, they’ve made the effort to register a API key). It’s less bassy than some larger Pure models, but that’s too be expected when there’s precious little extra room in this little box to act as a speaker cabinet.On its own, it’s a great affordable radio that won’t take up the whole work surface in your kitchen.

Despite annoyance that they can’t just give me a single page of text, transmitter by transmitter, like on Ceefax, the checker does work properly and they haven’t hidden any technical info – and it shows past faults, including about 10 minutes of downtime for the BBC digital mux on Friday night. If you can stomach the extra cash, the Evoke 1S offers a more attractive design and warmer sound, but we do think this second series model represents a significant upgrade over the original 2008 One Mini. Each model type has a “Family” suffix – idly wonder how many people will be sufficiently on-brand to understand/care what a “family” is, in this context? Look at slightly worn barcode (sticky label) on back of radio – consists of six digits, two letters, 4 digits, a space then a 9 – is this it?Perhaps the most common complaint about the first One Mini was that it looked and felt cheap compared with Pure’s other models.
