About this deal

A handful of full colour plates are included in small batches, including the very last one of that special one the book is dedicated to, succeeding in bringing a tear to the eye of many a reader, I think, as potentially will the closing chapter😢 coming just before the short but sweet ½ page of ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS. Monty never wrotes that he is for the hunting of any animal (and in fact often states otherwise), but simply tries to explaon that the situation of conservation is more complicated than a yes or no answer. I particularly enjoyed his heartfelt tribute to his beloved Nigel,So very moving and the book contains some lovely photos too. I bought it with the hope that it would be about Monty Don's garden and about gardening and plants but it is actually more about animals and wildlife which was ok, but not what I had hoped to read about. Overall this is an easy book to dip in and out of as well as one you can throw yourself into for a lengthier session of quiet escapism.

I have used the calendar months because these fit in with the rhythm of my gardening year ~ I always begin each January with a sense of hope and optimism because the garden is starting to wake up after the slow descent down to the end of the year. Monty has a lovely writing style that makes this book very enjoyable as well as a great learning tool for gardeners. His previous books include the Sunday Times bestseller Nigel, The Jewel Garden, Paradise Gardens and Japanese Gardens with Derry Moore , which was shortlisted for the Edward Stanford Travel Awards.Best Christmas Releases* --While some gardeners appear bent on suppressing nature, Monty Don loves and works with it. Many of you, like me, will know Monty Don through his TV documentaries and Gardener's World - and viewers came to love his gentle golden retriever, Nigel who died the day after Monty finished writing this book. After lending this to a couple of people who I know will love it, I will keep it as a source of reference about animals and plants. Some creatures are present in his book on a number of occasions, whilst others fail to appear at all, although they might be the stars of somebody else’s garden. Best Christmas Releases* -- While some gardeners appear bent on suppressing nature, Monty Don loves and works with it.

The book is presented almost as a yearly diary annotating the events and interactions with wildlife - both flaura and fauna. This is not so much Monty the gardener and celebrity but more the naturalist and country man, in the manner of a latter day Jack Hargreaves.

cm, it is a narrower format than I was expecting but it is a handy size to curl up in an armchair with to read Monty's observations on all sorts of things, often quite similar to my own feelings, e.

I grew to enjoy his no nonsense criticism of human practices that have destroyed so much of the natural world. My Garden World is Monty Don's personal journey through the natural year, month by month, season by season, observed from the immediate world around him. In this book he talks more about the wildlife he observes both at his home and at the farm he owns in Wales.

My only criticism is I wish it had been purposefully written in a If I’m honest, I’m not sure I’d have chosen this book for myself, but I was given it so felt obliged to read it. This is not sentimental but rooted in the lived experience of the last thirty years or so based in Herefordshire. The details about the decline and increase of certain birds, bugs and four legged creatures kept me wondering what it was like in the US.
