About this deal

Regardless of whether the machine was heating up or not, the temp and humidity in the hopper were the same as the temp and humidity in the room, so from what I can gather, it's simply that hoppers offer no protection from room conditions, regardless of whether they're integrated grinders or stand-alone. Yes the Coffeevac V patented system keeps moisture and oxygen out – these elements cannot enter the container unless you decide to take the cap off. Use the beans in the CoffeeVac or Fellow Atmos on a daily basis, so you can push the air out each time you've accessed your coffee beans, and once you've used the beans – refill the CoffeeVac/Fellow Atmos. This way, a kilo of lovely freshly roasted coffee beans should taste great right to the last cup, even if the last cup is around 4-6 weeks from the first!

Whole bean coffee freshness: We performed a similar test with whole beans that we did with ground coffee, storing half a bag in each canister and the other half in the bag over the course of eight days. We made notes on color and aroma of the beans before and after storage, and prepared a cup of coffee with the canister- and bag-stored beans to compare their flavor. As a further test of post-storage freshness, we sealed a few beans in zip-top bags and watched to see if the bags puffed up. (Fresh coffee beans produce carbon dioxide, which gradually inflates a sealed bag.)

Which Coffeevac is best for my needs?

The only issue I can see with them is that they seem slightly hit and miss when it comes to keeping the vacuum seal, with quite a few users reporting that the vacuum is often lost after several hours, and this seems to be more common with the steel version than the glass, I'm not 100% sure why, but I think that in some cases cleaning the edge of the container before sealing may help. We were immediately impressed by the item's weight and durability, especially given its affordable price. The sliding drawer worked smoothly after long-term use and never squeaked or creaked. The drawer has to be cleaned by hand, but this shouldn't be much of an issue since it stores K-Cups instead of actual coffee beans. My solution for this is to have two 500g storage containers, a cheaper option such as Coffeevac, and a more premium option such as Airscape or Fellow Atmos. You can do the above with any coffee storage containers, it doesn't have to be Airscape or Fellow Atmos & CoffeeVac, but ideally, the container you're using regularly should have some way to push the air out of. Don't Open The Bag… It depends on what you mean by “last”, really. As long as they're kept away from moisture, in theory, coffee beans will last for several months after opening. If you're buying “special” coffee beans, however, also known as “speciality coffee beans” then you're buying them, presumably because of how special they taste in the cup, so in this case it's not just about lasting, it's about still tasting just as special as the first cup, so for speciality coffee, you'll usually find that the suggested timeframe is up to about two weeks. As I've said, above, you can double this (or even triple it) by being smart when it comes to how you store your coffee beans.

It's so tempting to open your bag of coffee as soon as you have it in your hands, so you can inhale that lovely (hopefully) aroma, but the issue with this is you're letting oxygen in. Single dosing is where you weigh the beans and grind what you're about to use, and you can do this with just about all grinders, and the Sage integrated grinder machines, by buying a single doser add on which are short hoppers with bellows, used to push the last gram or so of coffee out of the burrs & the grinds chute. We offer 10 different sizes and 3 styles of Vacs – Solid – Clear and Tint. Often a Solid & Tint Vac will have a slightly looser fitting cap then a clear model. It is a misconception that a tighter fitting cap is working better or holding more of a seal. Loose caps function just as well and will tighten with time and use. This doesn't necessarily mean you have to single dose, you certainly can do that if you prefer, but it's not necessary. They empty the full bag of beans into their hopper or fill it as full as they can, and from this point on, they may as well just have a pile of coffee beans sitting on the kitchen work surface. The beans will be affected by constant temperature, humidity, light, and heat fluctuations in that room, as they don't have any protection from these elements. So in this post, I'm going to answer the question of how to store coffee beans in the positive sense, meaning I'll tell you the best places to store your coffee beans, and I'm also going to tell you the places you shouldn't be storing your coffee beans, and this includes one HUGE no-no, which is… the no.1 most popular coffee bean storage solution. Firstly let's just answer a couple of very commonly asked questions about how to store coffee beans, and that is, the fridge and the freezer. Hoppers don't protect coffee beans from oxygen, heat, light, humidity, or heat. This is why, I believe, many people have issues with dialing in, that they just can't seem to fix regardless of what they try.

The United States patent office granted us a patent on a vacuum container and degassing valve. Our Vacs create a partial vacuum – The same volume of air as the cap is removed and for human purposes this is enough to keep most goods fresh and edible for long periods of time. For the engineers out there technically speaking there is no vacuum until the cap is pulled upward without pressing the button. Either way the Vacs will keep goods fresher for longer and prevent weevil & bug infestations. This reality is why globally we have sold over 12 million Vacs without advertising. No batteries or electricity required! So, the moral of the story is don't store your coffee beans in the hopper, leave your beans in airtight storage, in a cool dark place, just lob the beans into the hopper that you are about to use. While glass isn't the best material for a canister, as exposure to sunlight causes coffee to go stale faster, the Bodum Yohki storage jar tested well enough that it deserves inclusion on this list. (It even outperformed several stainless canisters that we tested.) Just try to keep it out of direct sunlight if possible. This is an updated version of a previous Oxo coffee canister. The two are similar in size, price, and design, but the newer model comes with a couple of upgrades, especially regarding its ease of cleaning. It is now dishwasher-safe (aside from the lid) after previously being hand-wash only. The Fellow Atmos Vacuum Canisteris sleek, easy to use, and available in several sizes and colors, not to mention it has a dependable airtight seal. As an alternative, the Oxo Steel Pop Containehas excellent value for money and passed our tests with flying colors. How We Tested Coffee Canisters Also available in 250g and 1 kg, these are plastic coffee containers that have a one-way seal in the lid. They're often sold as vacuum storage containers, which I don't think is quite right, as they only allow a relatively small amount of air to be pushed out given that the valve is in the lid, they can't actually create a vacuum in and of themselves. If stored properly, whole bean coffee loses nearly all of its flavor in about six to nine months and ground coffee in about three to five months. Coffee steadily begins to lose flavor much earlier than this, however. Whole bean coffee tastes best when brewed within 14 days of roasting, and ground coffee is best within a shorter time frame of about 10 days. This window may feel brief, but don't worry: Coffee still tastes good even after these respective time periods have passed. Think of it as a reference point for when coffee is at its peak freshness rather than a deadline by which you have to brew.
