About this deal

In "Meet Me In Milan" by KD Sherrinford, the city of Milan itself plays a starring role. Sherrinford's vivid descriptions transport you to the bustling streets, picturesque cafes, and hidden corners of this enchanting Italian city. For the reader who is either ignorant of—or only vaguely aware of—Italian history, Mariuccia does a good job in presenting the evidence of an ongoing animadversion between Northern and Southern Italians. Milan (and Turino both) have always been more European than strictly Italian, and the Milanese treat most Southern Italians with something like contempt. They are, for the most part, simply day laborers in the great industrial machine that is Milan, or assembly workers in Turino—Italy’s Detroit (or at least what Detroit once was). Nineteenth-century Italian Unification (“Risorgimento”) notwithstanding, the Roman Catholic Church at one point laid a kind of “belt” across the peninsula and claimed the allegiance of everything geographically below the 42nd parallel—i.e., the latitudinal line on which Rome sits. Naples—originally a Greek outpost (“Nea Polis”), then for a period under the dominion of Spain—was the epicenter of that allegiance. Is any of this of particular importance to the plot of Meet Me in Milano? Not really. But it does help to inform the story and to explain some of the moods and actions of Mariuccia’s characters.

I was fascinated by how the author discovers the feelings of a person who moves away from his hometown, and enters an adventure of which he does not know what will result from it. In this way, little by little the reader becomes involved in a series of events that without stopping that tell in a subtle way how complicated and hard it is to leave your roots, to immerse yourself in others at the end of different ones. This summer’s sexiest book promises to transport readers into the hilarious and tempestuous world of Zara, the beloved lead protagonist of this extraordinary trilogy. It’s obvious that Irene needs the help of her husband, but where is he? He is supposed to be on his way to Milan, but she hasn’t heard from him. To celebrate the upcoming release of Meet Me in Milan, Sophie will be hosting an exclusive launch party on Sunday, August 20th, at the glamorous Wunderbar Ballroom in Glasgow and it’s sponsored by Whitley Neil Gin.

One of the most commendable aspects of "Meet Me In Milan" is its portrayal of complex relationships, particularly the dynamic between Irene and her friend Sophia. It's a story of friendship tested by adversity and the resilience of bonds forged over time. Is Mariuccia (and, consequently, Melinda) in unbridled awe of her Italian hosts? Once again, I’ll let you be the judge with this rather amusing commentary on p. 182: “(a)t one time, Alberto had the idea of renting out libraries for such occasions. The client would answer a questionnaire about what kind of (false) impression he or she would like to give and they could (maybe using a proprietary software program) generate a list of works based on the answers. They would specify how they wanted the books organized as well. You know, Lolita next to Sense and Sensibility, or Machiavelli next to Karl Marx, alphabetically. He would wager that a good number of people wouldn’t even see it as a farce.” The strength of the book lies in its ability to combine mystery with emotional depth, creating a thought-provoking and engaging narrative. The well-developed characters and the exploration of complex themes are standout features. While the book excels in many aspects, some readers may find the pacing a bit slow at times, as the narrative delves deeply into character development and relationships.

The book also skillfully explores the dynamics of Irene's marriage and her friendship with Sophia, injecting a layer of interpersonal tension that adds to the narrative's richness. The characters are multifaceted, and their relationships evolve as the story progresses. Eso me hizo decirme a mí misma lo siguiente: Her books have become a sensation among women aged 16 to 60, who appreciate the Glaswegian humour and the insightful portrayal of the female mind, perhaps relate to her dating disasters and the importance of friendship.NOTA: tuve un pequeño amor por lo que Mariuccia cuenta aquí de Nápoles. ¡Oh, Dios! Quisiera ir a conocer Nápoles. What sets Meet Me in Milan apart is Sophie's remarkable ability to blend humor and vulnerability, capturing the essence of life's intricacies [...] Sophie's clever narrative strikes a balance between hilarity and poignancy, ensuring that even the most comedic moments carry layers of emotional authenticity. The result is a story that resonates deeply, eliciting laughter, empathy, and a renewed appreciation for life's twists and turns.' She isn't planning to go until she finds an old note from Tom that shows their feelings for each other were once mutual. And she needs to know - does he still feel the same way? And, just like that, Zara's on a plane to Milan to crash the most talked-about engagement of the year! Sherrinford's writing has an exceptional ability to immerse you in the captivating ambiance of Milan. As Irene investigates the attempted murder of her friend's husband, Luigi Amato, the book unfolds like an elaborate puzzle. The reader becomes an active participant in piecing together the mystery. The plot, centered around Irene's quest to clear Renata's name in a murder attempt, is a rollercoaster of suspense and deduction. What elevates this book is its exploration of personal relationships, especially Irene's complicated bond with her friend Sophia. It adds a layer of depth and authenticity to the story.

In Meet Me In Milan, Irene's friend is accused of an attempted murder on her own husband and Irene decides to help her prove her innocence.Todos estos datos que surgen de recorridos y paseos de los protagonistas, hacen que Encuéntrame en Milano sea un libro que valga la pena leer.
