About this deal

Oud Noir has similarities with Haltane from Parfums De Marly, but both are different enough that owing one doesn’t make the other redundant. I would say Oud Noir in its early stages is a deeper darker scent which does end up nice and sweet like Haltane in the dry down For this reason, I recommend "Versace Pour Homme Oud Noir" at this point especially to those who are looking for a mass produced and not too extravagant oud fragrance and to those who want to enter the "world of oud" and are looking for a very good and more than affordable oud entry fragrance. While taken very seriously in the Middle East, oud has only caught on in a big way in the UK in last few years. It is derived from the tropical agar tree, which is thought to originate in Assam in India. When the tree is infected by a mould known as Phialophora parasitica it reacts by producing a dense, dark and fragrant resin to protect itself. It is the resin-embedded heartwood of the tree that is the source of oud. The opening is all peppery woods and smoke, a really nice kind of somehow clean and fresh smoky oud, in spite of how contradictory that might sound. Eventually these darker notes give way to sweeter neroli and some bigarade for counter-balance, all of which replaces the grape leaf opening of Versace Man. The familiar saffron and cardamom from Versace Man floats into view, with the tobacco note of Versace Man died down to a nondescript tonka to support a greater presence of patchouli and woody-amber materials judiciously applied (no sandpaper scratch here). Beyond that, traces of Amouage-like incense (the highest-quality note in Versace pour Homme Oud Noir) really hit home the purpose of this being a "premium" upgrade from the usual masculine Versace fare. Performance is perfectly fine, although this gets quieter after hour two.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Oud Satin Mood is a powdery, floral oud cologne that pushes the boundaries of what it means to be a “masculine” scent. It’s the best oud cologne for men who want something elevated and elegant. What I would say is that they have moments where they meet up with one another like twins on the same path but then verge off and do their own things. If you like Haltane you will love this IMO. The durability and the silage get 7 points each from me, because the scent projects on my skin 1 and on the clothing 2 hours over one meter and lasts / is perceptible on my skin 7 and on the clothing 10 hours. This could be a bit stronger in my eyes, because I usually spray three times and it is still an eau de parfum and not an eau de toilette. The performance could be stronger, while still being (more than) good. On the other hand, there is a person of a young age, ready to take up the knowledge of the old person, but refresh it with something more modern, give it another direction forward, put more energy into action and show the world that he is here, that he is present. Oud Satin Mood is a luxurious concoction of creamy vanilla, violet, rose, benzoin, and oud. Despite its delicate notes, it has insane staying power. That’s because Maison Francis Kurkdjian is one of the few luxury perfume houses that use real oud rather than a synthetic compound. As a result, a few spritzes have the power to hang around for 11-12+ hours. For this reason, I give the fragrance 9 points, half a point because of the choppy / disharmonious transition between the head and heart notes, and another half point because of the oud, which could have been a little bit, but not much, stronger. And the oud? This is present from the beginning, but only slightly at first, and becomes stronger in the heart in combination with the incense. But it only really unfolds in the drydown. It gives the "Oud Noir" something mysterious, and together with patchouli and the Tasmanian false elm, also known as "Leatherwood", it forms a base that gives the perfume depth all around and a pleasant warmth and mystique to the skin even after hours. Tom Ford's Oud Wood has a special value for me in my life. On the one hand it's because I really love DNA, on the other hand it's also because I found my way into the perfume world with OW. Oud is much more than simply a cologne in the Middle East; it’s an inherent part of Arabic culture. So if you want the best oud cologne that’s both intoxicating and authentic, opt for an Arabic brand. The opening gives me a slightly boozy liquor smell from the Amaretto along with some bitter leathery notes from the saffron.

Oud is incredibly complex in its raw form, whereas with synthetic oud, you can replicate elements of natural oud you require for use," Schoen explains. The first use of these replicated oud compositions was in YSL M7 in the early 2000s, "but it didn't quite make it into a broader consumer's mind. Oud was a bit of an acquired taste for the western world at that time." Versace pour Homme Oud Noir (2013) is really close to the discontinued Versace Man (2003) to my nose, so much that I believe that one may have been discontinued to give this one some space on the market, and to basically re-market an idea that didn't do so well a decade beforehand with an upscale twist. That upscale twist of course, is the claimed oud note, which in the mostly-Versace-Man-on-steroids build of Versace pour Homme Oud Noir reads like peppery woods a la Creed Royal Oud (2011), after which this may also be chasing. As a downmarket alternative to Royal Oud, I can wholeheartedly recommend Versace pour Homme Oud Noir as well, as the scent really does feel like a mix between it and the erstwhile original Versace Man. It's really just that simple. People compare this to Tom Ford Oud Wood (2007) and I don't see it. Here's a selection of the very best oud fragrances for men available right now. And if you want to broaden your scented horizons? Take a look at our guide to the best men's fragrances. This Oriental should be worn preferably in autumn and winter because of its warmth, heaviness and sweetness and is suitable for every occasion, but especially for going out and cold evenings and nights. Oud’s like an enigmatic character. It’s got depth, like an ocean of stories in a single drop. But hold your horses, it’s not playing the gender game. Oud doesn’t have a him or her tag.It doesn’t last long on many people, but it does on me. The saffron and OUD mix quite well. Don’t expect strong projection, people will smell you for sure that you know. It’s a complement getter big time but not outdoors or in big crowds, The oud itself I do not feel as animalistic or faecal, it rather goes into the medical direction and appears "noir" and woody and smoky, although it is also not, as mentioned, THE main theme of the fragrance. Do the best oud colognes use synthetic or natural oud? Oud is the most expensive perfume ingredient in the world. Needless to say, many oud colognes use substitutes rather than the real deal. As Frank Voelkl, Firmenich perfumer, explains, “what we do to replicate the smell of natural oud in our fragrances is create substitutes that are compositions using a combination of other natural ingredients and some synthetic molecules.” He says the benefit of doing this is that they’re, “generally ‘softer’ and less animalic-smelling compared to that of natural oud extract.”

I find a comparison with Oud Wood rather difficult, because the differences are too big & the ONI is much more complex, more powerful ... well, almost gigantic. The heart is first of all shaped by saffron and then especially by a sweet incense - I love it (!) - I do not perceive cardamom personally. In my experience, incense is more likely to be perceived at a distance, and saffron is more likely to be perceived at close proximity to the skin. Through the present male sweetness (of the incense) this Versace fragrance slowly but steadily becomes warmer and more oriental, the incense, which I perceive until the end, makes him by its mysterious, smoky resinous, but also slightly sweet, effect to a "noir". So if you are someone who likes leathery fragrances you are sorted. If you are somebody who likes sweet fruity scents you are sorted. If you are someone who likes fragrances that have great longevity and projection again you are sorted. It's since been fine-tuned to cater to all kinds of perfume tastes that are widening as the world we live in becomes increasingly globally connected and our curiosities, as well as the possibility to indulge them, become more and more within reach. While it's not entirely realistic to travel the whole world smelling all the smells (though is it a personal dream of mine to do so), but perfume has always been a way to travel through time and space, with the free airline in your olfactory receptors. Now to the scent: That here many cheese smell in the top note is really cheese there is nothing at all.But before I come to the fragrance itself & the description, I would like to talk briefly about the "fake news" that circulates about Fragrance de Bois on the Internet. Initio with Oud For Greatness also tried what this scent has done in my eyes (in my nose ;-) ), but I find this one even more powerful
