About this deal

Evan Williams is a familiar bourbon brand for anyone with a soft spot for drinking American whiskey. Peters, Josh (September 21, 2015). "Evan Williams Bourbon Review". The Whiskey Jug . Retrieved November 24, 2015. I figured coming into this review that Evan Williams Bottled in Bond wasn’t going to catch me off guard with amazing levels of complexity or flavors. Sure enough, what I found was a no-nonsense bottle that delivered an amped-up experience from the regular Evan Williams Small Batch 1783 bottle. I just bought my second bottle of this stuff and I love it. I live in BC, Canada, and Evan Williams isn’t widely available. They do however sell it exclusively in my city at one liquor store. I find it sooo much better than other budget bourbons like Jim Beam. Like night and day. I’ve been using it to make old fashioned’s and have not been disappointed. Does alright on it’s own too. However, it was very one dimensional and had raw alcohol notes that were not pleasant. The sweetness was also more corn syrup and less warming caramel.

My reasoning behind this has to do with the Evan Williams Experience being located in downtown Louisville. So it would make sense to distill, age and bottle that whiskey nearby. Speaking of Heaven Hill, all of their whiskies are distilled at Bernheim Distillery which is located in Louisville. From there, the whiskey is barreled up and matured on one of six different campus’s that Heaven Hill owns. Nose: I find the opening scents in my glass to be pretty standard bourbon fare. The bourbon itself smells sweet, like a melted Payday candy bar.

The 7 year is a nice, spicy bourbon that stands out among the crowd of young, sweet bourbons that are currently dominating the shelves. The 7 years is bottled in a bond which means it meets all of the legal requirements to be considered a bonded bourbon. During this time frame, Heaven Hill was proud to release ultra-premium ultra-aged products like this one. It was only until the mid-90’s that Heaven Hill started producing younger bourbons for survival purposes. You are responsible for all activities through your account. Evan Williams Fire is a cinnamon-infused bourbon for a hot cinnamon taste that will give fire to your belly. Sarah Shadburne (February 20, 2020). "Distiller releases commemorative Derby bourbon". As part of my comparison series, I put these two well know budget brands next to each other so you can make an informed buying decision. Many whiskey enthusiasts, including this bourbon reviewer, have long had a soft spot for Evan Williams. It just seems to go down so damn smooth without being too light or over-the-top sweet. Traditionally, Evan Williams has only come in a singular variety that was bottled at 80 proof, but that all changes with introducing their new 7-year-old Single Barrel Bourbon. The appearance of the bottle itself also is quite unusual. The bottle’s label includes a vintage year — a reference indicating the year the bourbon was put into oak barrels to age — that makes Evan Williams Single Barrel Bourbon unique and interesting. Evan Williams Single Barrel is the only vintage dated single barrel Bourbon on the market. Similar to the way vintage wines are selected, our distillers hand-select individual barrels that meet the specifications they’ve established. Then each bottle is marked with the vintage date it was put into oak, along with the year it was bottled and the exact barrel number of the single barrel that the Bourbon was drawn from.”

Evan Williams Spiced Cider is an all-time favorite flavor-infused bourbon whiskey that is best to enjoy on cold nights. Today, the stills of the Heaven Hill distillery stand proud in downtown Louisville, producing a modest one barrel a day. Why only one barrel? Because Heaven Hill demands a certain level of quality control and care, so only one barrel can be made at a time. Yup. Just. One. At. A. Time.Angel’s Envy does some great work in aging whiskey. Many would argue — myself included — that this expression isn’t the best example of that work. For me, it’s too sweet. Verging on high-fructose pancake syrup. If that’s what you dig in bourbon, please don’t let me stop you from loving this. Still, I find their more adventurous and refined expressions to be what people are really talking about when they name drop this brand. Spicy with toasted oak and mint freshness. Hints of dry paper and pepper. A faint hint of vanilla. Water brings more citrus and pepper. It has a light body and is not very complex. Heaven Hill’s Evan Williams brand has been budget-priced and widely distributed for several years, but that hasn’t undercut the substantial quality of what the distillery is crafting out of their Louisville campus. Their standard Evan Williams Single Barrel Bourbon is a textbook example of an excellent single barrel bourbon at a great price.
