Like most females, secretary Sonia Cytrowska (28) from Gdynia, Poland first started to remove her body hair when she was 12 but thanks to airbrushing in magazines and on television, she constantly found herself comparing her hair to other girls who had more or less hair than her. At the end of the day, women should choose what makes them individually happy. I stopped shaving my last year of high school because I was really coming into a new form of myself! I was in love with how I looked with body hair, especially under my armpits, and it was satisfying to do something that felt true to me and was definitely not the norm where I was from. I still got hated on a bit but I felt my queer self staring to expand and be loved by myself. What’s the last time you remember yourself having hairy armpits? If it was too long ago you need to do something about that because firstly, body hair is not something women should be ashamed of and secondly, it’s the latest trend for women all over the world.

It makes me feel like a grown-up. It makes me feel like I’m in control of my life and how I want to be presented. I get to say what I think beauty is. My happy trail is my favorite. I’ll never shave it again because I think it’s so cute. I wish people were more secure with their natural selves and did not want to fit into this box of what other people think beauty is. Most women complain about having to shave/wax, so why do it? For whom? For themselves or for societal acceptance? I choose not to shave because I find myself beautiful and it’s very comfortable to live that way but of course days where I question why I choose to fight with all these beauty standards and ask why I am so stubborn. That’s why I made a post about it on social media. I saw January and thought this is a good thing for woman. Having hair on display scared me. I have a very light mustache, but the worst people always noticed it. I hated shaving my pits, even though exposing them au naturel terrified me. One day I wore a sweatshirt for an entire dance class even though the radiators were on blast because I had a little bit of pit hair. Sonia admits that she does still have days where she feels under pressure to look a certain way but she hopes that through social media she can show other women that having body hair is both normal and beautiful.
