In Carry On Again, Doctor ( 1969), Jim Dale plays a surgeon who sets up a slimming clinic on the basis of a potion from the Beatific Isles. A film had appeared in 1957 under the title Carry On Admiral; although this was a comedy in similar vein (and even featured Joan Sims in the cast) it has no connection to the Carry On series itself. Their suty time is taken up not only with nursing, but in attempting to control the riotous “shower” of patients who are always up to some prank or other. Carry On Dallas (1980), a spoof of the popular American soap opera Dallas was pursued in 1980. A script was written and casting offers made to Williams, Connor, Douglas, Sims, Windsor, Hawtrey and Dale. The production was abandoned when Dallas production company Lorimar Productions demanded a royalty fee of 20 times the total production budget. [12] The Carry On movies are without a doubt staples of British cinema, they are iconic with iconic gags, stars and they are wonderfully celebrated in this boxset. However, to the modern audience these movies are highly dated with a lot of racial and stereotypical viewpoints (particularly towards women) which simply are unacceptable in the present day and that does for me take away from these movies, but of course they weren't designed to be future proof.
